Teaching my teenager to drive

Teenagers choose their parents to teach them to drive. Ask a teenager, “Who do you want to learn with, your parent or a complete stranger?” and they will say, “My parent.” It makes perfect sense. Learning to drive is mentally hard for a young learner driver, and nobody wants a stranger watching them as their nerves kick in.

Most driving instructors are professionals, and they do their best to deal with those feelings. But I am sure it is easier with a parent. It just is.

Parents love to teach their children too. Looking back, I remember teaching mine to talk, eat, walk, get dressed, read, behave, play games, avoid danger and ride a bike. The list is endless. But when it comes to driving, you start having second thoughts.

Yes, it would be wonderful to sit beside your teenager as they feel new things for the first time: the dramatic reactions, the screaming, the wide eyes and open mouth, the firm grip on the wheel, and at the end, that huge smile of accomplishment as they turn towards you.

It is a parent’s dream, but it can turn into a nightmare in a split second. Even a small scratch on the bumper can spoil the moment. To be fair, that kind of accident is very likely, and the chance of it is putting you off.

But it doesn’t have to be like this. Don’t despair. You have the skills and the experience to avoid an accident. You just need to hit the brake and save the moment.

LearnerBrake is there in front of you, ready and responsive. It has the same feel as the driver’s brake and lets you step in quickly to slow or stop the car. It is the safety net you can provide.

Put your doubts aside. It is quick to install, so you can start teaching the right way, the safe way. Make the dream happen.
